Irving Berlin (1888–1989) was an American composer and lyricist, widely regarded as one of the greatest songwriters in American history. He wrote some of the most iconic and enduring songs of the 20th century. Berlin began his career as a singing waiter and later worked as a lyricist. His breakout success came with the song "Alexander's Ragtime Band". Over his career, Berlin wrote over 1,500 songs, many of which became hits. His songs spanned various genres, including Broadway musicals, films, and popular music including "Always" a romantic ballad that has been covered by many artists.
