Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov (1844-1908) was a Russian composer, conductor, and music educator. He is widely regarded as one of the most important figures in Russian classical music and a prominent member of the group of composers known as "The Five" which also included Modest Mussorgsky, Alexander Borodin, Mily Balakirev, and César Cui. He was particularly skilled in orchestration and is famous for his use of exotic and oriental themes in his works. His most well-known compositions include "Scheherazade," "Russian Easter Festival Overture," "The Flight of the Bumblebee" and the opera "The Golden Cockerel."
